A 16-year-old, who attends a school for troubled students, was arrested for bringing a BB gun to Joliet Central High School, police said.
On Wednesday morning, a police detective assigned to Joliet Central was notified that a 16-year-old was on campus the day before while possibly in possession of a handgun, according to police.
“Further investigation confirmed that the juvenile, a former Central student, was on campus and had shown others an object that was consistent in appearance with a handgun,” police said.
Police learned the juvenile was a student at Lincoln School. The school offers programs to students who have been suspended, expelled or who need more intensive academic, social or emotional interventions.
Officers located the juvenile at Lincoln School and arrested him.
“Officers received consent to search the juvenile’s residence at which time a BB gun that he possessed the day before was recovered,” police said.
The juvenile was taken to the Joliet Police Department.
During the teen’s escort to the building, he attempted to flee from officers while still in handcuffs, police said. Officers quickly secured him.
The teen was arrested on probable cause of criminal trespass to state-supported lane, disorderly conduct and resisting and obstructing a police officer. He was taken to River Valley Juvenile Detention Center.
