An outside agency is investigating the apparent suicide of an inmate at the Will County jail.
On Tuesday afternoon, Will County Sheriff Mike Kelley’s Office announced the death of Robert Vaughan, 51, of Frankfort. Vaughn was jailed Sunday.
A statement released by the sheriff’s office said Vaughan had been arrested by the Frankfort police and jailed on charges of aggravated domestic battery.
“On that day, Vaughan was being held in a booking cell and was found unresponsive from what appeared to be a suicide,” sheriff officials said.
Jail staff immediately began “life saving measures” on Vaughan, who was then taken by ambulance to AMITA Health Saint Joseph Medical Center in Joliet.
Vaughan was pronounced deceased at the hospital.
The Will-Grundy Major Crimes Task, which is led by Will County Deputy Chief Dan Jungles, is conducting an investigation of the incident.
