The driver of a Chevrolet Sonic crashed head on into two vehicles in Joliet, which led to the death of her 25-year-old male passenger.

The passenger was identified by the Will County Coroner’s office as Charles Hunter Jr., 25, of Shorewood.

Officers responded to the crash at 8 a.m. Monday at Caton Farm Road, east of Von Esch Road, said Joliet police Sgt. Dwayne English.

Preliminary investigation of the crash revealed that a 26-year-old woman from Plainfield and Hunter were riding in a Chevrolet Sonic, English said.

The Chevrolet Sonic was traveling west on Caton Farm Road and approaching Von Esch Road, English said.

The vehicle veered into the eastbound lanes of Caton Farm Road and crashed head on with a GMC Arcadia, English said.

A 43-year-old woman from Joliet and her 10-year-old female passenger were in the GMC Arcadia.

Following the crash with the GMC Arcadia, the Chevrolet Sonic then crashed head on with the Hyundai Santa Fe that was traveling east on Caton Farm Road, English said.

A 26-year-old Plainfield woman was the driver of the Hyundai Santa Fe.

The driver of the Chevrolet Sonic and Hunter were taken to Ascension Saint Jospeh Medical Center in Joliet for critical injuries, English said.

Hunter was pronounced dead at 8:30 a.m. at the hospital, according to the coroner’s office.

The driver of the Hyundai Santa Fe was taken to the same hospital with minor injuries, while the driver and passenger of the GMC Arcadia refused medical assistance at the scene, English said.

“This crash remains under investigation by the Joliet Police Department Traffic Division,” English said.
