Will County Coroner’s Office said Richard T Labus Jr. was shot in chest

A 42-year-old Lockport man was fatally shot on Thursday, according to the Will County Coroner’s office.

Richard T. Labus Jr was pronounced dead at 6:24 p.m. Thursday at Silver Cross Hospital in New Lenox after being shot in the chest in the 14000 block of Archer Ave, Lockport, the coroner’s office said on Saturday.

A preliminary autopsy was performed on Friday. The final cause and manner of death will be determined at a later date pending police, autopsy and toxicological reports, the coroner’s office said.

The Will County Sheriff Department is investigating the incident.

Labus’ obituary said he was an amateur bodybuilder, worked as the chief technology officer for Epay Systems and Prism HR for many years and was a member of St. Francis of Assisi Catholic Church Orland Park.
