Recyclables — mostly cardboard — caught fire, an official said.

Firefighters battled a blaze at a Waste Management transfer station in Rockdale Wednesday evening.

The fire inside the Moen Avenue transfer station started about 5 p.m.

Recyclables, mostly cardboard, caught fire, said Rockdale Police Chief Robert Dykstra.

A firefighter from another town answering the phone at the Rockdale fire station said he was only there for change of quarters and had no information on the incident.
