Threat to shoot up ‘Central High School’ fake, originated in Missouri: cops

Police in Plainfield, principal in Joliet addressed social media threat

The threat of a mass shooting at a “Central High School” was false and actually originated out of state, the Plainfield police said.

The social media post told of a “plan to shoot up Central High School around 10 to 11 Am” Friday, according to the Plainfield Police Department.

“Me and my friends have been bullied for so long and we can’t deal with it anymore,” the post said.

“We will shoot anyone on sight going for around 5-10 students and 5 administrators,” the post said.

The Plainfield police posted to the department’s Facebook page Friday night that it was aware of the post and a preliminary investigation revealed “it does not involve any school within our jurisdiction and the appropriate jurisdiction in the State of Missouri is aware and investigating the complaint.”

Joliet Central High School Principal Shad Hallihan alslo addressed the threat in an email to students and parents.

“Late last night we were notified of a threat that is circulating on social media that references a shooting at a Central High School,” Hallihan said in the Saturday morning email.

“We contacted the Joliet Police Department who began an investigation,” Hallihan said. “The investigation determined that the threat was not referring to Joliet Central High School and that there is no threat to our school as it relates to this social media post.”
