A Joliet man wanted for attempted murder was captured Friday on the city’s near west side.
In addition to attempted murder, David Grijalva, 20, faces charges of aggravated battery with a firearm, aggravated discharge of a firearm and aggravated unlawful use of a weapon, according to a statement released Friday night by the Will County Sheriff’s Office.
Grijalva’s bond was set at $3 million, the sheriff’s office said, and he remains in custody at the Will County jail.
Grijalva’s case file was placed under a court-ordered seal, according to the sheriff’s office, which released no information on what Grijalva supposedly did to warrant such charges. Grijalva, the sheriff’s office did say, is a “known associate of the Vice Lords, a Joliet area street gang, and is known to carry firearms. "
Grijalva, who lives on East Mound Street in Joliet, according to Will County jail records, was apprehended at a residence on Woods Street by the the Will County Sheriff’s Office Warrant Unit, police said. The warrant unit is part of the U.S. Marshals Service Great Lakes Regional Fugitive Task Force.
Prior to the arrest Friday, detectives located a residence where an associate of Grijalva lives, the sheriff’s office said.
“Physical surveillance was conducted on the residence, and investigators were able to confirm that Grijalva was inside of the residence,” police said.
Marshals and deputies then entered the residence and found Grijalva in a basement bedroom, according to police.
Grijalva was scheduled to appear in court Sunday morning, jail records show.
