Teen fatally shot while riding inside vehicle in Joliet: cops

Victim taken to St. Joe’s hospital in a private vehicle, police say

A male teen was shot while riding as a passenger in a vehicle in Joliet and was later taken a hospital where he died, police said.

At 9:22 p.m. Sunday, officers responded to AMITA Health Saint Joseph Medical Center in Joliet for a report of a shooting victim who arrived at the emergency room in a private vehicle, Joliet police said in a news release.

Officers determined that an 18-year-old later identified as Jwaun Jones had been shot while riding in a vehicle near Western Avenue and North Bluff Street, police said.

“After the shooting, the driver of the vehicle transported Jones to AMITA Health Joseph Medical Center, where he succumbed to his injuries,” police said.

At 2:57 a.m. Monday, Jones was pronounced dead from a gunshot wound, according to the Will County Coroner’s Office.

Police said the investigation is active and in its early stages.
