A motorist was killed and a passenger was hospitalized in critical condition after a single-vehicle crash in Joliet.
About 3:25 a.m. on Friday, the Joliet Fire Department responded to a report of a vehicle crash at Route 6 and Terminal Court, said Joliet Fire Chief Greg Blaskey.
Crews arrived at the scene and found a vehicle on its side and on fire, Blaskey said. The vehicle was wrapped around a traffic signal pole.
A preliminary investigation revealed the vehicle was a sedan that was driven by a 23-year-old male driver, said Joliet police Sgt. Dwayne English.
The vehicle was “overturned and engulfed in flames after it appeared the vehicle had struck a traffic signal on the southeast corner of the intersection,” English said.
A 34-year-old passenger had been ejected from the vehicle and he was in the roadway, Blaskey said. He was treated and taken to AMITA Health Saint Joseph Medical Center in Joliet in critical condition, with life-threatening injuries.
English said the crash is under investigation by the traffic unit of Joliet police.
