A Joliet man was arrested on a warrant and taken to the Will County jail, where the staff reportedly found a bag of suspected cocaine in his sock, police said.
About 11:30 p.m. Tuesday, officers conducted a traffic stop on a vehicle near Mississippi and Fourth avenues, police said. Thurmond Lurry, 44, of Joliet, was driving the car that was pulled over, according to police.
“Officers had prior knowledge that Lurry was wanted on a warrant for failing to appear in court for prior traffic charges,” police said.
He was then taken to jail where he became uncooperative with staff, police said.
“Upon further search of Lurry, Will County Adult Detention Facility personnel recovered a bag of suspected cocaine within Lurry’s right sock,” police said.
Lurry was arrested on probable cause of possession of a controlled substance and bringing or possessing contraband in a penal institution.
He later was formally charged with possession of a controlled substance, court records show.
On Wednesday, a judge found probable cause to continue Lurry’s detention and set his bond at $5,000, court records show. As a condition of bond, Lurry was required to submit to drug testing.
Lurry was freed from jail Thursday after he posted bond, jail records show.
Lurry has pending charges of battery, resisting a police officer, criminal damage to property and disorderly conduct stemming from an incident on Sept. 26 in Joliet, court records show.
The case is scheduled for jury trial Aug. 3.
