A Joliet man was arrested after officers conducting a drug investigation found him in possession of cocaine and ecstasy, police said.
About 8 p.m. Wednesday, Anthony Covington, 36, was found in the 300 block of Manhattan Road and taken into custody in connection with the incident, according to Joliet police.
“Covington was positively identified as a suspect regarding an ongoing drug investigation that began in May of 2021,” police said.
Officers “recovered cocaine and ecstasy upon search of Covington,” police said.
He was taken to the Will County jail on five drug-related felony charges, court records show.
Judge Brian Barrett found probable cause to continue Covington’s detention in jail and set his bond at $10,000. As a condition of bond, Covington must not possess firearms, ammunition, dangerous weapons or consume alcohol or marijuana.
He posted bond and was released from jail Thursday.
Covington is scheduled for a preliminary hearing on Aug. 12 to determine if he committed the alleged offenses. A grand jury will likely return a bill of indictment before then.
In 2014, Covington was charged with delivering of benzylpiperazine, a synthetic stimulant that produces euphoria and cardiovascular effects, according to the U.S. Department of Justice’s website.
In the same year, Covington was charged again with delivery of benzylpiperazine.
He entered a blind plea of guilty to both charges, court records show.
