A Palos Park man entered another man’s home in Homer Glen, struck him with a baseball bat and yelled at him for texting his wife, police said.
About 11:30 p.m. Saturday, Will County sheriff’s deputies went to the 14600 block of South Pebble Creek Court in Homer Glen for a welfare check. The person who called 911 said they were on the phone with someone residing at the residence, heard an argument and that it sounded as if someone was being attacked, according to a news release.
When deputies arrived, the person living at the residence told them that Brian Holmberg, 47, entered his home with an aluminum baseball bat in his hands, police said.
The resident said he was lying on his couch when he heard the front door open, police said.
Holmberg then walked in and started to yell about the other man texting his wife, according to police.
The other man is dating Holmberg’s wife, police said.
An argument ensued, police said, Holmberg swung the bat, striking and breaking a picture frame.
Holmberg then clubbed the other man’s left forearm and wrist area, according to police.
The beaten man claimed to have wrestled the bat away from Holmberg, who fled the residence in an SUV, police said. One of the sandals Holmberg was wearing fell off during the fight and police said it appeared one of his feet was cut by a piece of broken glass.
The resident’s mother was sleeping in the home during the incident, but the commotion woke her, according to police.
The mother then chased Holmberg out of the house as he shouted back to her that he was “going to kill her son,” police said.
While deputies were still at the home, police said, Holmberg’s wife texted her boyfriend that he had returned to their Palos Park home and kicked in the front door.
Deputies contacted the Palos Park Police Department and officers responded to the residence, according to the sheriff’s office.
The deputies informed the Palos Park officer that there was probable cause to arrest Holmberg for home invasion, according to the sheriff’s office.
Palos Park officers took Holmberg into custody and he was transported to the Will County Public Safety Complex in Joliet Township for questioning, police said, but he refused to give detectives a statement.
Holmberg was booked into the Will County jail Sunday on probable cause of home invasion, aggravated battery and criminal damage to property, records show.
Holmberg’s bond was set at $150,000 and he was scheduled to appear in court Wednesday afternoon, jail records show.
