Teen killed in single-vehicle crash on Route 394 in Will County

Additional charges possible as Illinois State Police investigates crash

The 18-year-old passenger of a Toyota Camry was killed in a single-vehicle crash on a highway south of Crete in Will County, police said.

Illinois State Police responded to the crash about 5:30 a.m. Wednesday.

A 17-year-old driver from Crete was operating a 2009 Toyota Camry on Route 394 south of Goodenow Road, according to a news release from the Illinois State Police.

The vehicle “drifted off of the roadway, lost control, and entered the right ditch,” police said.

The vehicle struck two poles before it came to rest in the field west of the roadway.

The 17-year-old was taken to a hospital with minor injuries, police said.

William Earls, 18, of Munster, Indiana, was pronounced dead at the scene, according to police and the Will County Coroner’s Office.

The 17-year-old was cited for improper lane usage and operating an uninsured motor vehicle, police said.

“Possible additional charges could be pending as the investigation continues,” police said.
