A Joliet man was arrested at his home and jailed in connection with an August gun attack, police said.
About 6:30 a.m. Tuesday, Joliet police and the Will County Sheriff Fugitive Task Force arrested 18-year-old Elian Raya at his Comstock Street residence.
Raya was wanted on charges of aggravated discharge of a firearm and aggravated unlawful use of a weapon.
The charges stemmed from an Aug. 14 shooting near the corner of West Marion and Ivy streets.
About 11 p.m., the passenger of a vehicle opened fire at a vehicle driven by a 21-year-old man, striking it, according to police.
Detectives “investigating this incident identified Raya as the suspect,” police said, and three days later obtained a warrant for his arrest.
When the officers arrested Raya at his home Tuesday, they “recovered a handgun in plain view near where Raya was located in the residence,” police said. “It was also determined that Raya held a Will County arrest warrant for failing to appear in court to face charges of Disorderly Conduct.”
Raya was taken to the County jail. The warrant for his arrest carried a $200,000 bond and he remained in custody Thursday.
Raya appeared in court Thursday and a public defender was appointed to his case.
