A Joliet woman surrendered herself earlier this week in court on charges accusing her of violently attacking a bartender at Rey De Copas on Collins Street.
On Tuesday, Carla Sis-Lem De Yoj, 36, of the 300 block of Herkimer Street appeared in court after Judge Donald DeWlikins issued a $75,000 bond warrant for her arrest on charges of aggravated battery.
The charges stemmed from an incident that occurred about 1:30 a.m. Nov. 28 at Rey De Copas, 723 Collins St., Joliet police Sgt. Dwayne English said.
“It was determined that the female bartender was approached by a female suspect and an argument ensued over the suspect’s boyfriend,” English said.
During the argument, Sis-Lem De Yoj grabbed a glass beer bottle, broke it and then used it to “cut the victim on the left forearm, causing two large lacerations,” English said.
Sis-Lem De Yoj fled the bar before the officers arrived, English said.
Prosecutors charged Sis-Lem De Yoj with causing “permanent disfigurement” and “great bodily harm” to the alleged victim by striking her in the arm with a broken beer bottle.”
DeWilkins signed the warrant for Sis-Lem De Yoj’s arrest Dec. 29.
About two weeks later, Sis-Lem De Yoj’s attorney, Eric Mitchell, filed a motion that said the mother of three wished to appear in court “on her own volition.”
Judge Dave Carlson issued an order to quash the warrant and allow Sis-Lem De Yoj processed at the Joliet Police Department.
Carlson ordered her not to consume any alcoholic beverages and to not have any contact with the alleged victim or Rey De Copas.
