A vehicle connected to a Chicago carjacking fled state troopers and crashed into a ditch on Interstate 55 in Will County, police said.

On Wednesday afternoon, troopers saw a vehicle that was wanted in connection to an aggravated vehicular hijacking in Chicago, Illinois State Police said in a statement.

A trooper initiated a traffic stop on Interstate 94 at 75th Street in Chicago but the vehicle fled, which led to a pursuit, police said.

The pursuit continued onto Interstate 80 to Interstate 294, police said.

The suspect vehicle continued on I-55 and crashed into the ditch on the highway at Interstate 80, which is in Will County, police said.

“The driver and sole occupant of the vehicle fled on foot and was apprehended a short time later,” police said.

The driver was then hospitalized for injuries considered not life threatening, police said.

“This is still an open and ongoing investigation,” police said.
