Joliet Public Schools District 86 was chartered in 1857, covers more than 26 square miles in Joliet and serves more than 11,000 students, according to its website.

In addition to its 15 elementary schools and four junior high schools, District 86 includes one each of the following: early childhood center, alternative school, building support services building and administrative center.
