The University of St. Francis in Joliet said it raised nearly $18,000 during Giving Tuesday which it will use to provide over 30 scholarships through its student emergency fund.

USF thanked its alumni, employees and community for its support late last month, according to a news release.

The student emergency fund is critical because it provides support for students with a one-time gift of $500 to address cases of severe hardship due to unanticipated needs like food assistance, testing and clinical fees, temporary transportation and housing.

The school said the support from the Sisters of St. Francis of Mary Immaculate, USF’s Sister sponsors and other contributors is more important now because of the many challenges students face.
