Foster, Newman slam Trump’s attempt to reverse Georgia election result

U.S. Reps. Bill Foster and Marie Newman blasted President Donald Trump’s attempt to pressure Georgia state officials to “find” him enough votes to overturn his loss in the general election.

After news outlets published a recording of the call in which Trump pleaded for enough votes to hand him the victory, the members of Congress from the Will County area spoke out.

“The President’s behavior on this phone call is utterly disgraceful,” Foster, D-Naperville, said on his Facebook page. “Every time we think he couldn’t debase the Presidency any further, we are reminded that he has no respect for the office he holds, the rule of law, or our democratic system of government.”

Newman, D-La Grange, called the president’s actions “criminal, sickening, and entirely in line with his disdain for democracy,” in a Facebook post.

“Trump and his allies have no problem subverting the will of the American people,” Newman said. “Trump will be gone soon, but we must continue to fight the strong anti-democratic forces in the Republican Party. We won’t stand for this.”

U.S. Rep. Adam Kinzinger, R-Channahon, called the president’s call “absolutely appalling.”

“To every member of Congress considering objecting to the election results, you cannot- in light of this- do so with a clean conscience,” he said in the tweet ending with the hashtag #RestoreOurGOP.

Kinzinger has been especially critical of Trump as he continues his baseless claims of massive voter fraud that delivered Democrat Joe Biden the presidency.
