U.S. Rep. Marie Newman announced her assignment to several subcommittees as part of her roles on committees on transportation and infrastructure, and small businesses.
Newman, D-La Grange, will serve on the Subcommittee on Highways and Transit and the Subcommittee on Railroads, Pipelines and Hazardous Materials, according to a news release. She said she wants to help “build back” the district’s transit systems, which have suffered from disinvestment and the COVID-19 pandemic which greatly affected ridership.
“From the Chicago Transit Authority and Metra to Interstate 55 and Interstate 294, railroads and highways run deep within Illinois’ 3rd Congressional District, which is why I am proud to be selected to serve on these subcommittees so I can further ensure our residents have the high-quality, reliable transit systems they deserve,” Newman said in the release.
Newman will also serve on the Subcommittee on Economic Growth, Tax and Capital Access, and the Subcommittee on Innovation and Workforce Development. She said she hopes to ensure the next COVID-19 relief package will “invest in workers” and put them “on a pathway to greater financial stability.”
“As someone who has been a small business owner, I know first-hand that America’s small businesses, neighborhood shops and local entrepreneurs are the beating heart of our communities and the engine to our economy,” she said in a release.
The 3rd Congressional District includes portions of Crest Hill, Homer Glen, Lockport and Romeoville.
