Joliet officers recognized for responding to over 1,000 service calls, making 77 arrests

Officers recognized as VFW Cantigny Post’s Officers of the Year

Two Joliet police officers were recognized as Officers of the Year after they responded to over 1,000 calls for service, made 77 arrests and issued 157 traffic citations.

On March 11, a ceremony was held to recognize Joliet Police Officers Nicholas Giordano and Juan Santiago as the VFW Cantigny Post’s Officers of the Year.

In 2020, both officers responded to over 1,000 calls for service, made 77 arrests and issued 157 traffic citations, Joliet police Sgt. Dwayne English said.

“We would like to congratulate them for their hard work and sacrifice through the past year that led to them receiving the award. Job very well done, officers!” officials said on the Joliet police Facebook page.

Santiago was hired on Jan. 16, 2019 and Giordano was hired on June 10, 2013, according to English.

The VFW Cantigny Post chooses police officers and firefighters of the year from only the Joliet police and fire departments respectively, English said.

“This recognition has been annually bestowed upon police officers and firefighters for over the last 20 years,” English said.

Last year, Joliet Police Officers Adam Blaskey and Kyle Killian were chosen as VFW Cantigny Post’s Officers of the Year.
