Bishop Ronald A. Hicks will celebrate Easter Sunday Mass in Spanish at Our Lady of Mt. Carmel Parish, 407 E. Irving St. in Joliet, the Diocese of Joliet announced Friday.
The diocese announced the bishop’s Holy Week schedule, starting with the Palm Sunday Mass, which he will celebrate Sunday at the Cathedral of St. Raymond Nonnatus, 604 N. Raynor Ave. in Joliet.
Parishoners have registered online to attend the services in person, and they are at or near capacity, the diocese said in a news release. However, each service can be viewed on YouTube or Facebook.
According to the release, Our Lady of Mt. Carmel parish “has been serving the Spanish-speaking community since at least 1948, when the first Mass celebrated in the nearly completed chapel took place on Christmas Eve.”
The Mass schedule throughout Holy Week is as follows:
• 10:30 a.m. Sunday: Palm Sunday Mass at Cathedral of St. Raymond Nonnatus in which Bishop Hicks will deliver the homily. Mass can be viewed online at https://youtu.be/6MMoF4Lxukc.
• 7 p.m. Monday: Chrism Mass for the consecration of sacred oils to be used for the sacraments throughout the liturgical year, at the Cathedral of St. Raymond Nonnatus. Bishop Hicks will offer the homily. Mass can be viewed online at https://youtu.be/-DB9urZFF5c.
• 7 p.m. Thursday: Mass of the Lord’s Supper at the Cathedral of St. Raymond Nonnatus, where Father Ryan Adorjan will deliver the homily. Mass can be viewed online at https://youtu.be/NSISd-i6t4Y.
• 3 p.m. Friday: Good Friday Service at Cathedral of St. Raymond Nonnatus, where Father Willian Dewan will deliver the homily. The service can be viewed online at https://youtu.be/LN4QFHa_BGk.
