The city of Joliet is warning residents of a scam involving solicitors coming to residents' homes claiming that they are city employees working on a water project.
These door-to-door solicitors are not affiliated with the city, according to a release posted by the city.
If someone comes to your door, always ask to see identification and credentials. City workers will have an official city of Joliet ID with them, according to the release.

The city first warned of this scam in December, when council member Jan Quillman said at a City Council workshop meeting that scammers tried to get into an elderly woman’s house claiming to be city workers checking residents’ water systems.
The men had cards but no city identification, claiming to be working on a “water update,” Quillman said at the time.
The city is in the midst of a massive water project, replacing miles of water mains as it prepares to switch to Lake Michigan water by 2030.
