Joliet residents can learn emergency preparedness at free workshop

The city of Joliet’s Office of Emergency and Disaster Management will host upcoming workshops to help educate residents on ways they can better prepare for emergencies, disasters and catastrophic events.

The two-hour workshops will be from 9 to 11 a.m. and 5 to 7 p.m. Wednesday at Joliet Fire Station 10, at 1599 John D. Paige Drive

This is a free event with no registration required to attend.

Topics covered in January’s workshop include:

• Services provided by the city of Joliet Office of Emergency and Disaster Management

• Understanding the nature of emergencies, disasters and catastrophic events

• Personal disaster preparedness

• Home safety

Building an emergency kit (Part 1)

• Winter weather preparedness

John Lukancic, director of the city of Joliet Office of Emergency and Disaster Management, a certified associate emergency manager and an Illinois professional emergency manager, will present at the event.
