Incumbent mayor to run for trustee in April

Two candidates filed petitions to run in the April municipal election to be the next mayor of Shorewood.

Daniel Anderson and Clarence “CC” DeBold, both village trustees, will vie to be the next mayor.

The incumbent mayor, Rick Chapman, who was first elected mayor in 2001, said he chose not to run again for his seat because he wants to spend more time with his family.

“After 20 years, it’s time maybe to put somebody else in there with fresh ideas,” Chapman said.

Anderson has served as a trustee in Shorewood since 1997 while also running his family auto recycling business.

He argued he has the requisite experience to succeed Chapman, which he thinks distinguishes himself from his opponent.

“I’m used to making big decisions,” he said.

DeBold has served nearly one term on the Village Board after being elected in 2017. He is a firefighter with the village of Bolingbrook. He said he’s running because he thinks change is needed in village government.

“I think we need some new, younger blood (and) energy on the board,” he said.

Chapman still wants to remain involved in village government, which is why he is running for a seat on the Village Board. He said that’s because Shorewood leaders will face a few big issues in the coming year.

In the next year, Chapman said he expects a decision on an alternative water source for the village, which he said officials have been working on for the last decade.

The village is also working with the state on a “massive” widening of about three miles of Route 52 through town.

They’re looking for help in accommodating the planned Rock Run project at Interstate 55 and 80, which Chapman said will require improvements to Seil Road and a bridge over the DuPage River in Shorewood.

The mayor said the road would serve as a major outlet to the development but he worries if the village would have adequate funding for the improvements.

Besides Chapman, other trustee candidates who filed include Christopher Brophy, Donald Carroll, Diane Lambert and incumbent Daniel Warren.
