With just 1 to 2 inches of rain over the past 24 hours, the Joliet area is not in danger of flash flooding.
However, that could change by tonight, so drivers need to be aware, according to Kevin Birk, meteorologist with the National Weather Service in Romeoville.
Will County might see another round of thunderstorms later this evening, which could produce a couple inches of rain, Birk said.
This means anyone on the road at that time, overnight or in the early morning, might encounter flash flooding, he said.
“Any water at all, whether its accumulated on the roads from the heavy or actual flooding can be dangerous,” Birk said. “You could hydroplane and lose control if you’re driving too fast or if you drive into flooded water. You could stall, get stuck and then could possible need rescuing.”
The heaviest rainfall has occurred in southern Will County, which has seen several inches. The community should expect scattered showers for the rest of Friday, Birk said.
