Joliet Catholic Academy - How Joliet Catholic Academy Serves the Community

In a display of community spirit, the Key Club at Joliet Catholic Academy has joined forces with several other student organizations, including the Student Council, National Honor Society, and National Art Honor Society, to carry out a series of impactful service projects aimed at benefiting both the JCA community and the greater Joliet area.

This year’s initiatives included creating heartfelt holiday cards for nursing home residents and foster families, organizing a winter clothes drive, and collecting toys for the annual Toys for Tots campaign.

In addition, Key Club members encouraged students during exams with posted messages, and spread cheer by giving Candygrams to teachers and staff, fostering a positive school environment.

Pumpkins for a Cause, supporting the Pink Heals organization, was a standout project this year, demonstrating the club’s focus on student mental health. The Key Club also celebrated the success of KeyMas, now in its third year, which has become a cherished tradition.

“This is our third year accomplishing KeyMas, and it was a tremendous success,” said Karlyn Budz, Key Club Moderator. “We do not only impact the JCA community; we also reach various communities such as Toys for Tots and local nursing homes. It’s an absolutely wonderful project that allows students to think outside themselves during the Christmas season and give back to the community.”

Under the guidance of moderator Budz, the Key Club’s officers—Kate Leeders, Ellie Blotnik (VP), Molly Vershay (Secretary), Adam Bailey (Treasurer), and Grace Laird (Communications)—have played a significant role in coordinating these initiatives.

The NHS also took part in community service by volunteering at Feed My Starving Children and local food pantries, while the NAHS contributed by creating a beautiful mural in the school cafeteria. Meanwhile, the Student Council organized a food drive to support local food pantries.

JCA Clubs’ collective efforts have significantly impacted the community, proving the strong spirit of giving and service at Joliet Catholic Academy.
