5 Things to Do: View ice sculptures in Huntley and fireworks in Johnsburg

Holiday celebrations continue in McHenry County with Flurry Fest in Lake in the Hills and a parade in Johnsburg

Here are five things to do this weekend:

Flurry Fest: Spread holiday cheer at the Lake in the Hills Flurry Fest from 5:15 to 6:45 p.m. Friday at Village Hall, 600 Harvest Gate. Marvel at the village hall decorations of snowflakes, high-five Frosty the Snowman, take a picture with Santa and collect gifts from Santa’s elves. Holiday parade: Light up the season during Johnsburg’s Holiday Magic Parade starting at 5:30 p.m Saturday. The parade route, filled with decorated and lit-up vehicles and floats, will head down Hickory Way, Florence Drive, Shiloh Drive and Church Street to the Johnsburg Community Club. The festivities include food, drinks, a Santa appearance, crafts and fireworks. Ice sculpture walk: View custom ice sculptures while sipping hot cocoa during the Ice Sculpture Cocoa Crawl from noon to 5 p.m. Saturday on the downtown Huntley Square. Fill up on hot cocoa at walkable stations, eat s’mores and look at holiday animation-themed ice sculptures around the Square. Candlelight skiing: The McHenry County Conservation District invites skiers and hikers of every experience level and age to the annual Candlelight Ski & Hike from 5 to 9 p.m. Friday and Saturday at Boone Creek Conservation Area, 916 Cold Springs Road, Bull Valley. If there is less than 4 inches of snow, the events will be held as hikes. The free event also will be held Jan. 10 and 11 in Harvard and Feb. 7 and 8 in Marengo. Santa’s workshop: Join Santa and his elves for a festive night during Huntley Park District’s Santa’s Workshop from 6 to 8 p.m. Friday at the Huntley REC Center, 12015 Mill St. Watch a holiday movie, take pictures with Santa, drink hot cocoa and get creative with plenty of crafts and coloring.
