Dixon Stage Left kicks off season with ‘Nunsense’

Jimmy Ferraro

DIXON – Dixon Stage Left is thrilled to kick off the new year with the divine musical comedy extravaganza “Nunsense” from March 28 to 30.

This presentation will be part of DSL’s capital campaign that will start in January. With ongoing renovations at its new space, this production will be held off-site at the Jerry Mathis Theatre at Sauk Valley Community College.

“Nunsense,” with book, music and lyrics by Dan Goggin, will be directed by artistic director Jimmy Ferraro with music director Clea Arbogast.

Ferraro has directed “Nunsense” across the country and is excited to bring these wacky and crazy nuns to Dixon.

“These nuns will turn the convent upside down with singing and dancing in a hilarious spectacle that will have you rolling in the aisle,” he said.

Ferraro has arranged a special surprise for the cast and crew. As a favor to Ferraro, Goggin has agreed to personally consult with the actors during rehearsal.

“Danny and I have been friends and colleagues for years. Having him chat with the actors about the show will be an extraordinary experience for all involved,” Ferraro said.

This show revolves around the Little Sisters of Hoboken, who are putting together a fundraiser to raise money to bury sisters accidentally poisoned by the convent cook, Sister Julia (Child of God).

DSL will be holding auditions for the show from 5 to 7 p.m. Jan. 10 and 11. More information about auditions can be found at DixonStageLeft.org.

Tickets will go on sale Jan. 1 at www.DixonStageLeft.org, via phone at 815-440-2999 or the new space at 105 S. Peoria Ave., Dixon. You also can find more information about the show and other events happening at DSL on the website or the Facebook/Instagram page.

“We continue to be blown away by the community’s generous support and excitement about Stage Left and our future,” Scott Fattizzi said. “Our whole staff is obviously excited to get back to producing shows for our community and making art for everyone to enjoy.”

If you would like to learn more about “Nunsense” and how you could become a production sponsor for this one-time event, contact Fattizzi at 815-677-9736 or scott.fattizzi@dixonstageleft.org.
