Prairie Singers concert set before Ransom church closure

The Prairie Singers will present a post-Christmas concert at 2 p.m. Sunday, Jan. 5, at St. Patrick’s Catholic Church, Ransom.

Here are five things to do this weekend and in upcoming weekends:

Prairie Singers: The group will present a post-Christmas concert at 2 p.m. Sunday, Jan. 5, at St. Patrick’s Catholic Church, 110 S. Wallace St., Ransom. Organ pieces, choral selections of the season by the singers and congregational hymns will conclude the singers' Christmas concert series. The concert will close the Christmas season and be in commemoration of more than 100 years of worship at the St. Patrick’s Church. The church will be closing later in the month. The church is adorned with stained glass windows telling the life of Christ from birth to the resurrection. The tracker organ, which is more than 126 years old, will be highlighted with special keyboard selections by George McComb. A free-will offering will be accepted at the close of the concert.

Lights out bowling: Bowl from 6 to 11 p.m. Friday at the Streator Elks Club, 202 N. Park St., with the party lights on. Get a strike on the colored head pin and spin the prize wheel. It could be a free drink, free candy bar, free game of bowling or free chips. Shoes are available for free. The cost is $5 per game per player. The Elks will offer a family night package (three games of bowling for up to four bowlers, two large pizzas and four sodas) for $60. Bowling hours may close early if there aren’t enough bowlers. Reservations are not required but can be made at streatorelks591bowling@gmail.com.

The trolley then will travel to the Illinois Waterway Visitors Center observation deck to spot eagles. The trolley also will travel to some other areas that are known for bald eagle sightings. The trolley will be narrated with history and legends of the area and the park. Guests will receive a sack lunch upon boarding the trolley. Lunch will include a turkey or veggie wrap, a bag of chips, a granola bar, a piece of fruit and a bottle of water. The cost is $35. Go to starvedrocklodge.com for more information.
