NCI ARTworks in Peru to host ‘Juxtapositions’ exhibit

Opening reception set Jan. 10

North Central Illinois ARTworks at Westclox in Peru

NCI ARTworks in Peru will host an opening reception from 6 to 8 p.m. Friday, Jan. 10, for the month-long exhibition called “Juxtapositions,” featuring the work of Stuart Roddy, Cathy Staker, Lyle Newby and Jacob Stouffer.

The exhibition is free, and the public is welcome.

Stuart Roddy

Roddy grew up in Laguna Beach, California, where he began his formal art training. He later earned his degree in art education with a minor in painting at the University of Illinois. His compositions are planned out meticulously, but the color and brushwork remained loose. The value of painting shifts between control and improvisation. In recent paintings, the color pallet has become more expansive and expressive. The paintings embody the landscape and his emotional response to the landscape. His brushwork is loose but specific and always pursuing the essence of the subject matter.

Cathy Staker

Staker resides in Sterling. She is a contemporary landscape artist. She began working with acrylics, then graduated to oils. Staker’s artistic values celebrate natural light, shadow, color and plein-air visions that inspire every brush stroke. Her art graces poetry books and has been displayed in galleries near Sterling. Staker takes inspiration from Andrew Teschler and Peter Monsted. She is a self-taught artist who has spent years drawing and painting, honing her skills and developing her own unique techniques.

Jacob Stouffer

Stouffer is an emerging talent with a flair for contemporary art whose work explores themes of connection, identity and emotion, bringing a reflective and deeply personal touch to his pieces. His mixed-media creations and textured compositions invite viewers to pause and reflect. Through his thoughtful use of materials and layering techniques, he creates pieces that capture the subtle interplay of emotion and environment.

Lyle Newby

Newby brings a unique creative perspective to contemporary art. He transforms everyday materials into thought-provoking pieces. His work is recognized for its dynamic interplay of structure and spontaneity, blending tactile storytelling with avant-garde aesthetics. His sculptures draw viewers into a world that is both playful and profound. At the core of Newby’s art is a commitment to innovation and originality that challenge artistic norms while inviting viewers to engage on a deeper level.

The opening reception for the month-long exhibit of “Juxtapositions” will take place Jan. 10 at the NCI ARTworks Gallery, 400 Fifth Street, in the west wing of the Westclox building. The gallery is open from 1 to 4 p.m. Monday, Wednesday and Friday and private viewings of the exhibit can be arranged by emailing outreach@nciartworks.com.
