St. Charles Arts Council to host second annual Plein Air event

The St. Charles Arts Council will hold its second annual Plein Air event Aug. 18-24 throughout downtown St. Charles, and artists can now submit applications.

Plein air is the act of painting outdoors, where artists paint the scenes in front of them.

According to a news release, this will be a juried event, with the judge selection to be announced later. A total of $5,250 in prizes will be awarded.

Artists will be allowed to submit three paintings. Building on the success of last years attendance, the committee has opened up the participant numbers to include up to 55 artists this year. Applicants can apply at www.stcharlesartscouncil.org.

Registration is open to all artists. The non-refundable entry fee is $65, which must be included with the application. The deadline for submissions is April 25.

Entries will be juried by the St. Charles Arts Council Plein Air Committee, and artists will be notified of acceptance by May 9.

Artist events include the weeklong Plein Air Paint Competition; Quick Paint, limited timeframe competition; Nocturne competition; Monday Night attendance at Welcome Party; Grand Reveal Party and Public Sale of Paintings.

Activities will also be held for the public throughout the week, including Plein Air demonstration; A “Quick Paint” competition; Mindful Creativity for children; and a Writers Event.

Awards will be given out in a variety of categories.
