Reels at the Rialto celebrates theatre’s Vaudeville past with movie screenings

Rialto Square Theatre’s year-round monthly movie series “Reels at the Rialto” kicks off with a screnning of “9 to 5″ on Thursday, Jan. 30.

Rialto Square Theatre’s year-round monthly movie series “Reels at the Rialto” kicks off with a screnning of “9 to 5″ on Thursday, Jan. 30.

The 2025 Reels at the Rialto Movies Series includes a mix of popular movies, old favorites and family-friendly titles.

According to a news release from the theatre, the movie series is a nod to its Vaudeville movie palace past.

“It’s important for us to offer a wide variety of entertainment options for the residents of Joliet and surrounding areas,” Executive Director Wade Welsh said in the news release. “We are thrilled to partner with incredible sponsors to make these movies affordable for everyone.”

Dolly Parton’s Imagination Library of Will County will host a fundraising event before the Jan. 30 screening of “9 to 5.” All proceeds from the event will support the Imagination Library of Will County. The reception will begin at 5:30 p.m. with the movie starting at 7 p.m. Tickets are $20. All proceeds from the event will support bringing the Imagination Library to Will County, which mails free, age-appropriate books to children ages 5 and younger. Tickets for all other reels are $5 each and will be available in advance or on the day of the reel at the Rialto Square Theatre Box Office. Tickets are unavailable online and are now on sale at the box office. Doors will open 30 minutes before showtime, and all movies start at 7 p.m. All seating will be general admission. Bar and concessions will be available for purchase.

Movies for December will be announced as part of Home for the Holidays 2025.
