5 Things to Do: NAMI Presentation, Tom Sharpe Ensemble and more in Kendall County

Here are five things to do in Kendall County:

1. National Alliance on Mental Illness (NAMI) Presentation: From 1 to 2 p.m. Saturday, Jan. 18, there will be a NAMI presentation in the Meeting Room at the Oswego Public Library’s Montgomery Campus, located at 1111 Reading Drive. NAMI Chicago advocates for mental health awareness and provides support and information to those in and around Chicago and beyond. NAMI aims to fight stigma and discrimination surrounding mental health. Registration will close at 10 a.m. Jan. 18. 2. Upcycled Jeans Bag: From 1 to 4 p.m. Saturday, Jan. 18, there will be a class on how to make a bag out of jeans at the Fox River Academy of Music and Art, located at 26 W. Van Buren St. in Oswego. Students must bring a pair of jeans they do not wear anymore, one spool of all-purpose thread in a color of choice and one yard of cotton print or solid fabric for lining and details. This event is for all skill levels and will be led by RaeEtta Yen. Registration is required and closes at 10 a.m. Friday, Jan. 17. 3. Stoneware Turtle Shell Pattern Workshop: From 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. Thursday, Jan. 23, there will be a Stoneware Turtle Shell Pattern Workshop at Arts on Fire Studio, located at 217 E. South St. in Plano. Attendees will learn how to apply glaze and focus on creating a turtle shell pattern. Stoneware clay is heavier clay that is dishwasher and microwave safe. There is a workshop fee of $15, and the price of pottery will depend on what attendees choose. Pieces range from $25 to $50. Those interested can RSVP online or call 630-273-2119. 4. WildFire Back at Nash Vegas Saloon: From 8 to 11:59 p.m. Friday, Jan. 24, the cover band WildFire will perform at Nash Vegas Saloon, located at 61 S. Main St. in Oswego. 5. Tom Sharpe Ensemble: At 7:30 p.m. Saturday, Jan. 25, there will be a performance of Tom Sharpe’s Ensemble at the Sandwich Opera House, located at 140 E. Railroad St. in Sandwich. Sharpe is a talented composer, performer and recording artist. He is the artistic director of the Sharpe World Music Ensemble, as well as the drummer for Mannheim Steamroller. He has appeared on television, toured with famous bands, won contests and collaborated with well-known artists. Tickets range from $30 to $35.
