A new sign welcomes visitors to the Joliet Junior College Trackman Planetarium. The Trackman Planetarium will be open to the public on Thursday for a one-hour astronomy presentation about ongoing efforts toward the next mission to Mars, (Gary Middendorf/gmiddendorf@shawmedia.com)

1. Planetarium Show: Mars: The Ultimate Voyage: 6 p.m.-7 p.m. Thursday, Joliet Junior College, Trackman Planetarium, F-1001, 1215 Houbolt Road, Joliet. The Trackman Planetarium will be open to the public for a one-hour astronomy presentation about ongoing efforts toward the next mission to Mars, challenges astronauts will face and what humanity’s future might look like on the Martian surface. 2. JSO Family Concert & Instrument Petting Zoo: 11 a.m., Saturday, Jan. 18, University of St. Francis, Sexton Auditorium (Moser Performing Arts Center), 500 Wilcox St. Joliet. The Joliet Symphony Orchestra will host a family-friendly concert with an opportunity for audience members to interact with the musicians and try out some instruments. 3. Windy City Dueling Pianos: 7:30 p.m. Jan. 31, Embers Taphouse, 933 S. State St., Lockport. Two entertainers perform high-energy live music on two pianos along with interactive comedy. 4. Americana Festival: 2-11 p.m., Feb. 8, ROXY Lockport 1017 S. State St., Lockport. Music, vendors and food. Lineup includes The Rangers, JJ Smith Band, The Righteous Hillbillies, Echo and Ransom, Aaron Kelly & Demi, Brandon Reisdorf, The Simple Remedy, Sophie Coyote, Jenny Bienemann, Tank & The Beez, Aaron Williams, Honeyspoon and Chuck Wilson.
