Lake Geneva, a summer haven known for its sparkling waters and charming lakeside homes, transforms into a winter wonderland each January during Winterfest, Jan. 29-Feb. 2.
The 30th annual celebration of winter captivates visitors with its breathtaking massive snow sculptures, festive activities and cozy ambiance. The event features America’s Snow Sculpting Invitational, where champion artists from across the country descend on Lake Geneva to show off their exceptional skills.
Fifteen teams will start their work Wednesday, Jan. 29 at Riviera Plaza and Flat Iron Park, finishing on Saturday, Feb. 1. Sculptures will remain on display through Sunday, Feb. 2 (or until they melt).
New this year, the competition is now a juried event, with a jury of notable snow sculptors. Sculptors who work in large-scale formats and representatives of art and academia will determine the first, second and third place finishers. Additionally, there will be a People’s Choice winner and a winner voted on by the 15 teams themselves.
“This new format opens up the competition to a bigger pool of talented sculptors from around the country, not just winners of state competitions, so expect to see an even wider range of incredible works of snow art in 2025,” Stephanie Klett, CEO of Visit Lake Geneva, said in a news release.
“We’ve done everything from creating the towering forms into which snow is packed for the sculptors, to mapping out the grounds, to mobilizing volunteers, and more, so visitors can expect an especially stellar year for the 30th annual Winterfest,” Klett said.
Other Winterfest events include live entertainment, beach bonfires, human dog sled races on the beach and more.
Admission to the event is free.
