Handsome Genesis GV80 Prestige delivers big luxury with value

Performance, ride characteristics are world-class

The 2025 Genesis GV80 Prestige SUV is big on style and luxury.

The 2025 Genesis GV80 Prestige SUV delivers a luxurious experience that rivals more established brands, blending high-end features with thoughtful design and distinct style. My tester was a poster child for Genesis' growing reputation for innovation and craftsmanship, though the brand comes with a few considerations that potential buyers should be aware of.

The biggest challenge Genesis faces is coping with its still-limited accessibility of stand-alone brand dealership locations, which have not caught up to the popularity of the brand. While this can be an inconvenience for maintenance, the brand is expanding its footprint nationwide.

Costs

The GV80 Prestige starts at a base price of $79,300. My tester featured a gorgeous Storr Green paint ($650) that brought it to a very reasonable $81,300. This puts it on the same level as other luxury SUVs like the BMW X5 and Mercedes-Benz GLE. While Genesis may not yet carry the same brand prestige, I’d argue the GV80 makes a compelling argument to be considered alongside these household names.

Design and comfort

The GV80 Prestige is very unique looking. Its sleek lines, imposing grille and signature quad headlight design are striking, especially in a market crowded with SUVs that can look quite similar to one another.

Inside the cabin, the craftsmanship truly shines. Nappa leather seats, real wood accents and an uncluttered, modern dashboard create a cabin that feels upscale and welcoming.

Space is another strong point. With ample room in both the front and rear seats, passengers of all sizes can sit comfortably.

Maybe just as impressive is the generous cargo space, which is at the top of the class. The split-folding rear seats and power tailgate add a touch of convenience and capability.

Technology

Genesis has outfitted the GV80 with an impressive suite of technology. I especially like the centerpiece 14.5-inch touchscreen display, which offers crisp graphics and a user-friendly interface. Apple CarPlay and Android Auto come standard, along with a robust navigation system.

The GV80 features a host of driver-assistance technologies, such as adaptive cruise control, lane-keeping assist, and a 360-degree camera system. One standout feature is the augmented reality navigation, which overlays directions on a live camera feed of the road ahead, making it easier to follow unfamiliar routes.

On the downside, I found some tech features, like the touch-sensitive climate controls, were a bit touchy while driving. Probably because I was keeping my eye on the road. Physical buttons would be better.

Performance

My GV80 Prestige featured a twin-turbocharged 3.5-liter V6 powerplant pushing out 375 horsepower. The SUV feels powerful and responsive, and with the 8-speed automatic transmission, it delivers smooth acceleration and confident handling. The ride quality is excellent, thanks to the adaptive suspension system that absorbs bumps and rough patches effortlessly.

While the GV80 is clearly more about comfort than sportiness, I felt like it responded to every jab of the throttle with clear capability. Fuel economy is average for the class, with the V6 returning an EPA-estimated 20 mpg combined.

Final thoughts

The 2025 Genesis GV80 Prestige SUV is a strong contender in the luxury SUV segment. With its elegant design, premium interior and impressive tech, it offers a lot of value. At $81,300 as tested, it’s not cheap, but it undercuts similarly equipped competitors while delivering an experience that feels just as premium.

The GV80 Prestige is worth a test drive, though you may have to travel some distance to find a dealership to buy or maintain your SUV.
