A proposed 15,000-square-foot building to be constructed at the United Auto Workers Pat Greathouse Center on Ottawa’s South Side received a unanimous recommendation by the city’s plan commission for preliminary plat approval.
The location is now platted for 20 houses. The requested change is for a planned unit development.
The preliminary plat approval is on the City Council’s Tuesday agenda for consideration.
The building will be the new office for UAW employees who now work at the UAW office in Lincolnshire. That facility will need to be sold before the new one in Ottawa is built, officials said.
The new Ottawa building would on a typical day have six employees, although that number could periodically increase to about two dozen when meetings are held.
There also will be two dozen parking spaces, two of which will be handicapped spots. Other nearby existing parking also will be available for use by the new facility.
