Rebecca L. ‘Becky’ McComb

1952-2018

ST. ANNE — Rebecca L. "Becky" McComb, 65, loving wife, mother, sister, aunt, cousin and friend, died Monday, May 7, at her home, after a six-month battle with fast-progressing ALS.

Memorial services will be at 12:30 p.m. Saturday, May 12, at Baskerville Funeral Home, 700 E. Kahler Road, Wilmington. Her family will receive friends one hour before the service. A Celebration of Life will begin at 2:30 p.m. at Ryan’s Pier, 112 E. First St., Aroma Park.

In lieu of flowers, memorials can be made to the Salvation Army, Kankakee; the Betty Estes Memorial Scholarship, c/o Bank of Pontiac; or River Valley Animal Rescue, Momence.

Becky was born Sept. 18, 1952, in Atlanta, Ga., the eldest daughter of Dal and Betty Estes. She married Kenny McComb on Aug. 12, 1972, in Ransom. He survives in St. Anne.

Also surviving are her son, Jason (Rhonda) McComb; and her “sunshine” and light of her life, grandson, Lucas McComb, both of Bourbonnais.

She was preceded in death by her parents; brother, Adam; and in-laws, Wayne and Aggie McComb.

Becky was raised on the South Side of Chicago and attended Vanderpool Elementary and Morgan Park High School. She moved to Ransom in the early 1970s, where she met her future husband, Kenny. Following their marriage, they settled in Ransom, where they farmed for 43 years.

Prior to their retirement, they also owned a seed company, growing sales from 75 bags to 12,000 bags of Beck’s Hybrids annually. Becky also was a volunteer for several years in the Pontiac Tourism office with her mom, Betty.

She was an avid reader, gardener, cook and baker. She loved and was known for cooking amazing meals and decorating cakes for family and friends. Becky cheered loudly for the Chicago Bears and, although a South Sider, was a diehard Cubs fan, much to her family’s dismay. Since their retirement, Becky and Kenny have traveled extensively, with her most memorable trips being to Alaska, Hawaii and countless Caribbean cruises.

Becky is survived by her loving siblings, brother, David Estes, Pontiac, and sisters, Cynthia (Simmie Baer), Silver Lake, Wash., Melissa (Keith) Barnhart, Yorkville, and Elizabeth (Mary Fechtig) Estes, Saugatuck, Mich.

She also is survived by brothers-in-law, Wayne (Judy) McComb, Morris, and George McComb and Mike Hoover, Verona; nieces and nephews, Lizzie (Craig) Roscoe, Villa Park, Claire Barnhart, Los Angeles, Calif., Jeff McComb, Missouri, and Doug McComb, Morris; as well as several great-nieces and great-nephews, including her Cubs pal, Hayden Roscoe, and his big sister, Grace.

The family would like to thank Kankakee Valley Hospice and Dr. John Rinker, Pontiac, for the wonderful care Becky received. Her sweet spirit never wavered, even in the face of this difficult disease. She will be missed beyond measure.
