MARSEILLES — Steven Jeffrey Burris, 65, of Marseilles, passed away at 1:57 a.m. Wednesday, May 23, at Pleasant View, with his daughters by his side.

A celebration of life will be from 1 to 4 p.m. Saturday, May 26, at Mueller Funeral Home and Crematory in Ottawa, with services at 4 p.m.

He was born May 7, 1953, in Marseilles, to Joffre and Margaret (Johnson) Burris.

He had worked for many years at Impact Industries, Bill Walsh and Sherman’s, but was most known for the last 50 years as an area musician. Steve, along with his brother and close friends, created their first band when he was 13 years old. His passion was born and the fuse was lit, which carried with him for over 50 years. The most well-known bands he will be remembered for being in were Freedom, Touche, The Edge, and Say Uncle, and ending his musical career in The Wes Hausken Trio.

He is survived by his daughters, Ashley Medler, of Marseilles, and Elizabeth (Brent) Johnson, of Marseilles. He had four granddaughters Gabi, Chloe, Mikayla and Taylor, whom he loved dearly. He also is survived by his brother, Dave, and everyone he has ever shared a stage with as he considered those men and women family as well.

He was preceded in death by his parents.
