Roller skating party highlights the week ahead for Ottawa rec

Ottawa Recreation’s sixth week will feature a roller skating party at Paramount Roller Rink from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. Wednesday, July 11.

The $1 fee includes admission and skate rental. All parks will be without supervisors that afternoon. Supervisors will meet at parks from 9 to 9:30 a.m. and walk or wait until bus transportation arrives. Check with a park supervisor for exact times. Permission slips will be necessary in order to ride the bus. See park supervisors for more information.

Ottawa Recreation will be screening a morning movie, “Hotel Transylvania 3,” at the Roxy Cinemas at 10 a.m. Wednesday, July 18. Admission is $2: doors open at 9:15 a.m. Concessions will be available. Again, supervisors will meet at parks and walk or wait until bus transportation arrives. Check with a park supervisor for exact times. Permission slips will be necessary in order to ride the bus. That afternoon, there will be an afternoon at the parks from 1:30 to 4 p.m.

Monday, July 9

• AM Parks: Lincoln School, Turnberry, Kiwanis and Lincoln-Douglas Parks swim at Riordan pool in the afternoon. See the park supervisor for pickup times and permission slips to ride the bus, $1 entrance fee for children younger than 16 years old and if they enter with supervisors.

• Mini Monets Art Camp session 3 begins in the basement of City Hall. Camp is closed. 1:30 to 3:30 p.m. Monday through Friday, ages 8 to 10.

• Camp Hustle Basketball Camp begins at the YMCA gym. Openings still available. 12:30 to 2 p.m. Monday through Thursday, session 1, first and second grades; 2 to 3 p.m. Monday through Thursday, session 2, third and fourth grades.

• Flips ’n’ Fun Gymnastics Camp session 5 begins at Illinois Valley Gymnastics Academy. Openings still available. 2 to 3 p.m. Monday through Thursday, preschool gymnastics age 3.

• Ninja Zone Camp session 5 begins at Illinois Valley Gymnastics Academy. Camp is closed. 3 to 4 p.m. Monday through Thursday, ninja girls ages 5 to 6.

• Safety Town second session begins at McKinley School. Camp is closed. 9 to 11 a.m. Monday through Friday, ending July 20.

• Tae Kwon Do Camp located at Duque Institute Facility, 4022 Tyler Drive, left off of the road to Walmart. 1 to 2 p.m. Monday through Thursday, Little Ninjas session 3 ages 5 to 7. Openings still available. 2:30 to 3:30 p.m. Monday through Thursday, Tae Kwon Do session 4, ages 8 to 12. Camp is closed.

• Volley Tots Volleyball Camp begins at Marquette High School in the Marquette Bader Gym. Spaces are still available. 1 to 2 p.m. Monday through Wednesday first, second and third grades.

• OHS Volleyball Camp located at Ottawa High School Kingman and Love Gyms. Participants must register through the city rec office. Openings still available. 8 to 10 a.m. Monday through Friday, session, 1 fourth through sixth grades; 10:15 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. Monday through Friday, session 2, sevenththrough ninth grades.

Tuesday, July 10

• Crafts and Tiny Tots continue this week.

• Free Adult Dance Lessons at Schomas Dance Studio, 602 Catherine St. 7 p.m., Beginning Couples Swing Dancing; 8 p.m., Advanced Line Swing

Wednesday, July 11

• Roller Skating Party at Paramount Roller Rink from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. The cost is $1, which includes admission and skate rental.

Thursday, July 12

• Crafts and Tiny Tots continue at the parks.

Friday, July 13

• PM Parks: Vittone, East Side, McKinley School and Rigden swim at Riordan Pool in the afternoon. See park supervisors for pickup times and permission slips to ride the bus, $1 entrance fee for children younger than 16 and if they enter with supervisors.

• Bowling continues at Pinheadz. This is the last bowling session for the summer.

Saturday, July 14

• Dayton Bluffs Restoration Workshop will be at the Dayton Bluff Preserve, 2997 Illinois Route 71. Openings for Session 2. Camp is free. 8 to 10 a.m. ages 6 and older. Children need to be accompanied by an adult.

Looking ahead

• The Ottawa Recreation Game Carnival is scheduled 1:15 to 3:15 p.m. Wednesday, July 25, at Rigden Park. The carnival consists of various sidewalk games children can play for 10 cents each. If it rains on Wednesday, the carnival will be Thursday, July 26. See park supervisors for additional details.

Camp openings

Many openings are still available in the upcoming camps:

• Flips ’n’ Fun Gymnastics has openings for sessions 7 2:30 to 3:30 p.m. Monday through Thursday, July 23 to 27, beginner 9 to 12 years old.

• Softball Camp located at Peck Park has openings for both sessions. Session 1 for fifth- and sixth-graders 8:15 to 9:30 a.m. Monday through Thursday, July 16 to 19; session 2, 10 to 11:30 a.m. Monday through Thursday, July 16 to 19.

• An OHS Player/Parent Clinic is scheduled for fifth- through ninth-graders 9 to 11:30 a.m. Saturday, July 21, at Ottawa High School’s Kingman Gym.
