STREATOR — Betty N. McCarthy, 89, of Streator, formerly of the Chicago area, passed away Saturday, July 28, at her home.
Cremation rites have been accorded. Solon-Telford Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
Born July 26, 1929, in Wadington, N.Y., she was the daughter of Frank and Mary Dunham. She married Ralph McCarthy on March 28, 1947, in Watertown, N.Y. He preceded her in death on Sept. 29, 2010.
She is survived by daughters, Alicia McCarthy, of Chicago, and Carol (Brad) Baird, of Sandwich; one son, Larry (Shirl) McCarthy, of Rockford; seven grandchildren; 16 great-grandchildren; seven great-great-grandchildren; and a sister, Carol Grey, of Albany, N.Y.
She was preceded in death by her husband; her parents; daughters, Melody Gane and Maeva Bishop; sisters, Kathleen Reed, Phyllis Dumoulin and Virginia Bogart; and brothers, Allen and Daniel Dunham.
Born and raised in Hammond, N.Y., she attended school there. Through the years, she lived in New York and, for the last 68 years, resided in Illinois including the Chicagoland area, southern Illinois and Streator.
She was an avid conversationalist, a lover of puzzles, bluegrass and country music, photography and "Jeopardy."
