OTTAWA — William H. “Bill” Meyer, 90, of Battle Creek, Mich., formerly of Ottawa, passed away Thursday, Aug. 2, at Bickford Cottage assisted living facility.
He is survived by his two daughters, Rebecca (Jeff) Easton, of Berrien Center, Mich., and Sallie Meyer, of Battle Creek; and grandson, Andrew Easton, of Berrien Center.
He was predeceased by his wife of over 66 years, Helen (Lyle) Meyer; and his parents, John Ernest and Lena (Zeiter) Meyer.
Born Nov. 2, 1927, in Ottawa, to John and Lena Meyer, Bill attended Ottawa grade and high schools until he was drafted into the Army during World War II. During the war, Bill was an ambulance driver, light AA fire control equipment repairman and an ordnance parts clerk.
Following the Army, he was employed at Bakelite Manufacturing and American Hoechst, where he retired after 30 years of service.
Bill was a longtime member of Zion Lutheran Church in Ottawa, and for the past 10 years he also was a member of St. Paul's Lutheran Church of Battle Creek.
Bill will be laid to rest at Oakwood Memorial Park in Ottawa on Wednesday, Aug. 8. Visitation will be from noon to 1 p.m. Wednesday in Oakwood Memorial Park Chapel, with the service following at 1 p.m. and the United States Army Honor Guard bestowing military honors.
