Gerald P. Jaegle

1923-2018

STREATOR — Gerald P. “Jerry” Jaegle, 95, of Streator, passed away Thursday, Oct. 18, at Flanagan Rehabilitation and Health Center in Flanagan.

Funeral services will be at 11:30 a.m. Tuesday, Oct. 23, at St. Michael the Archangel Church, Streator. Deacon Ron Wackerlin will officiate.

Visitation will be from 9 to 11 a.m. Tuesday at Solon-Telford Funeral Home, Streator.

Burial will be in Sts. Peter and Paul Cemetery, Streator. Family members will serve as pallbearers. Full military honors will be accorded by members of the Leslie G. Woods American Legion Post 217 and the Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 1492.

Born Jan. 10, 1923, in Leeds, he was the son of Arthur and Frances (Duller) Jaegle.

He is survived by nieces and nephews, Dianne Cheak, of Carbondale, Marie (Pat) Cheak, of Geneseo, James (Kathy) Jaegle, of Streator, Chrisann (Jay) Tallis, of McLean, Charles (Sharon) Jaegle, of Lincoln, and Arthur Jaegle, of Streator; seven great-nieces; seven great-nephews; four great-great-nieces and nephews; a sister, Margaret “Mickey” Warner, of Sun City, Calif.; and a half-brother, Steve (Sandra) Hill, of Streator.

He was preceded in death by his parents; a brother, Kenneth Jaegle; a half-sister, Patricia Missel; and his longtime companion, Maxine Bennett.

Born and raised in Streator, he attended a one room country school house. He later graduated from Streator High School in the Class of 1941.

He served in the United States Army during
WWII.

He worked through the years for Peabody Myers until his retirement in 1987.

He was a member of the former St. Anthony Church and currently belonged to St. Michael the Archangel Church, Streator. He was also a member of Leslie G. Woods American Legion Post 217, the Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 1492, the National Audubon Society and the La Salle County Model-A Ford Club.

Jerry was an avid reader and loved nature. He enjoyed gardening, antique cars, hiking, taking long walks and bird watching.

Memorials may be directed to the charity of the donor’s choice.
