Four Ottawa High School football players were honored recently at the Pirates' awards banquet, (from left to right) — Jake Ahearn, Ben Lundy, OHS head coach Chad Gross, Matt Varland and Jake Ovanic. Ahearn received the Bill Novak Award which is given to the player who takes a leadership role within the team. Lundy earned the Tim Woosley Award which is given to the offensive most valuable player as voted on by his peers. Varland received the Ken Curl Award which is given to a four-year football player that epitomizes the characteristics desired by coaches, such as hard work and dedication to the team. Ovanic was voted by his peers as the Pirates defensive most valuable player.
