The Streator Community Center is moving to Sherman School.
The Open Bible Church, which recently purchased the former Oakland Park School building where the community center was utilizing, invited the organization to stay, but with expanding programs and business reasons the Streator Community Center said it needs its own space.
The Foreign Service (China) Group offered the community center space at the former Streator elementary school at 1206 E. Elm St.
The Streator Community Center is a 501(c)3 organization that offers programs to children and families in and around the Streator area. The organization sponsors Streator Park Fest in May annually, which is its main fundraiser for operation, as well as smaller events to keep costs low.
The community center offers the following programs: tutoring, mentoring, Shakers and Movers (senior exercise program $3), Alanon on Monday nights, grade nights and partners with Illinois Valley Community College for English Second Language courses and the University of Illinois with extension programs for children and seniors. The Foreign Service Group also will partner with IVCC in programming.
The entrance will be on Elm Street. To sign up for programs or more information call 815-672-2685.
