BUZZ EXTRA: New Dunkin' Donuts and Baskin Robbins opens in Streator

The Dunkin' Donuts and Baskin Robbins opened Thursday, Dec. 27, 2018, in Streator at the corner of Bloomington Street and Marilla Park Road, just west of Kroger.

A Baskin Robbins has returned to the hometown of its co-founder Burt Baskin, along with a Dunkin' Donuts built in.

The dual business opened Thursday morning to steady lines of customers at the corner of Bloomington Street and Marilla Park Road in Streator, just west of Kroger.

Baskin graduated from Streator High School in 1931. His family operated a clothing store in town. Baskin eventually moved to California where he married the sister of the ice cream chain's other co-founder Irv Robbins. The duo combined their ice cream shops featuring 31 flavors — one for each day of the month.

Streator once had a Baskin Robbins store at Westgate Plaza that closed several years ago. The city also had a Dunkin' Donuts at the corner of Bridge and Park streets that closed at what is now the location of Mr. J's.

Unlike some Dunkin' Donuts, Streator's new business will not be open 24 hours. The doughnut and ice cream shop features a drive thru and seating area.
