SOMONAUK — Charles H. Schaper, 75, of Somonauk, passed away Tuesday, Feb. 12, at his home in Somonauk. He was born Jan. 31, 1944, in Aurora, the son of Homer and Frances (Andrews) Schaper. He married Carolyn Phelps on Sept. 23, 1978, in Aurora. He worked at Caterpillar for 35 years, retiring in 1999. Charles was an avid collector of antiques. He enjoyed going to auctions. But most of all he loved spending time with his family.
He is survived by his wife, Carolyn, of Somonauk; his children, Cindy (Mike) Jackowiak, of Tennessee, Debbie (George) Fuchs, of Sheridan, Angela Schaper, of Somonauk, Ivan (Vickie) Rose, of Montgomery, Amy (Keith) Becker, of Millington, Alison Schaper, of Millington, and Mike (Diana) Rose, of Seneca; eight grandchildren, Nick, Diane (Davey) May, Jordan, Zack, Gus, Melissa, Kaitlyn and Michael; three great-grandchildren, Ella, Quinn and Carter; three brothers, Jim (Barb) Schaper, of Ariz., John (Candi) Schaper, of Oswego, and Tim (Mary Ann) Schaper, of Tennessee; and several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents.
Funeral services will be at 3 p.m. Sunday, Feb. 17, at Turner-Eighner Funeral Home in Somonauk — casual attire or bibs welcomed — with Rev. Mike Ragan officiating. A celebration of Charles’ life will be at 4 p.m. Sunday at The Country Kitchen in Somonauk. Graveside service will be at 10 a.m. Monday, Feb. 18, at Lincoln Memorial Park in Aurora. Visitation will be from noon to the time of service at 3 p.m. Sunday, Feb. 17, in the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to the charity of your choice.
