Richard Gretencord Sr., 76, of Ottawa passed away Tuesday, March 26, 2019 at Morris Hospital.
Funeral services will be 6:00 Thursday, March 28, 2019 at Ottawa Funeral Home. His visitation will be 3:00 to 6:00, three hours prior to services, Thursday at Ottawa Funeral Home. He will be buried in Ottawa Avenue Cemetery at a later date.
Rich was born November 6, 1942 in Ottawa, Illinois to Alfred and Bessie (Cox) Gretencord Sr. He married Linda Carter March 15, 1964 in Ottawa. He worked as a Boilermaker for sixteen years and then worked as a laborer at Material Service Morris until his retirement in 2005.
Rich was an expert welder and loved working in his garage. Most mornings you could find him there restoring old riding lawn mowers or bullshitting with his buddies. He loved growing up in the Town of Two Rivers and boating was one of his passions. Rich and his wife Linda were members of Erie Campground in Erie, IL where they enjoyed camping, fishing and sitting around the campfire. In recent years he loved his Friday night Gold Rush episodes. He was a devoted family man and wonderful husband.
He is survived by his loving wife, Linda; two children, Kim (Bill) Jaraczewski and Richard (Mitzi) Gretencord; four grandchildren, Jessica (Katie) Cox, Ashley (Anthony Vance) Gretencord, Adam Johnson, and Katy (John) Cameron; eight great grandchildren, Kaedence, Harleigh, Aurora, Annabelle, Leila, LJ, Sean, and Mila; and one sister-in-law, Joanne Gretencord.
He is preceded in death by his parents; seven sisters, Marie VanKampen, Betty Boldt, Zelma "Sally" Reed, Helen Miller, Annabelle Soens, Frances Hill, and Phylis Powell; and five brothers, Alfred, John, James, LaVerne, and Melvin "Dutch" Gretencord.
