Ottawa's USBC 14th Annual Bowler of the Year Banquet was held Saturday at the Ottawa VFW.
This year's USBC Bowler of the Year honors went to Carly Harsted and Jim Nichol.
Harsted bowls in Alley Cats League and participated in the Ottawa Open City Tournament. Her accomplishments raised her average seven pins from last year, top average on Classic All Star Team and bowled 3 games over 200 while being noticeably pregnant. Carly enjoys bowling with friends and family, always giving her best.
Jim Nichol bowls Monday Mechanics League at Pinheadz. Jim bowled consistently well this year, bowling six 700 series or better, with a high series of 731 and 35 225-plus games with a 300 high game. Jim raised his average from 220 to 224, earning him top spot on Major 1 All Star Team.
2019 Outstanding Achievement Award Youth Bowling went to Emily Davidson from Dettores Town Lanes, as well as Mathew Towne and Lucas Day From Pinheadz.
2019 Ottawa USBC Junior Tournament winner Prep Division was Emily Davidson, Junior Maleya Affrunci and High School Jordan Goff.
The first inductee to 2019 Ottawa USBC Hall of Fame is Jenny Farrell. Jenny started bowling 20-plus years ago, She bowled on several leagues, Alley Cats, Keglers Sat. Nite, Tuesday Nite, Friday Nite Mix and Hairpins. Some years she bowled two leagues a week, rarely missing a night. Jenny has participated in city tournaments and state tournaments. During her many years on the lanes, Jenny bowled numerous 500 series.
The second inductee is Julie Foster. Julie has bowled several leagues over her 19-plus years, in addition to participating in all the city tournaments, state tournaments and the Queens Tournament. She has made All Stars numerous times and Billy Otto Awards. Julie was BOTY in 1998 with 211 average, and in 2005 bowled a 300 game and 720 series.
The third inductee is Ken Hilton. Ken's bowled in Ottawa for 20-plus years and still bowls Ottawa Friday Night Mixed League and Ottawa Finest League at Town Lanes. Ken never misses a night of bowling. He enjoys the game, the people and competition. Ken has held 180-plus average for the past few years, with a high 196 in 2005.
The fourth inductee is Bob Olson. Bob has bowled for 20-plus, mainly at Pinheadz. Bob is always enthusiastic, ready to bowl and makes everyone around him smile. He's the first to congratulate everone on their scores, whether his team wins or losses. Bob has averaged a 172 for the last 14 years, with 185 being his highest in 2008.
The 2019 C.L.Erwin Humanitarian Award was presented to Jack Thomas. Jack has bowled in Ottawa the past 12 years. He rarely misses and always greets his fellow bowlers with a smile and a kind word. Jack participates in the tournaments, encourages others to do their best and congratulates them when they do.
Outstanding Achievement Awards: Brandan Lerette 300 game, Billy Gossett 800 series, Carlos Martinez 300 game 800 series, Jim Nichol 300 game and Aaron Angelico 800 series.
The Billy "Otto" Dettore Award went to Lacey Hansen 194 average and Carlos Martinez 224.
